QI GONG or CHI KUNG
Meaning "energy/breath work over time", Qigong is a modern term for the meditative breathing & stretching practices of ancient China. Medical Qigong is a self-care practice for relieving pain, aligning the body, reducing stress & nourishing a healthy lifestyle. As the name suggests, this all begins with breathing.
Unlike Tai Chi Chuan, in which every movement has a martial application, Qigong is practiced exclusively for health & relaxation. Exercises can utilize posture, breath, movement, color, and sound to harmonize vitality, organs & tissues of the body. Dr. Jon will often recommend Qigong exercises to reinforce a treatment plan.
Tai Chi classes includes Qigong sequences that can be incorporated into daily life, such as the Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation) Qigong from the Yiquan school of martial arts.
Currently we offer Tai Chi Chuan classes at The Breathing Room and Avalon School of Massage, which all incorporate Qigong. Many of the exercises we practice are thousands of years old.
Qigong is for everyone. Jon & Julie have taught seminars for corporate offices, youth camps, seniors & health fairs. Please contact us if you are interested in arranging a class!
